Marquise Diamond

The standard marquise cut contains 56 facets. This shape is elongated with pointed ends. It was inspired by the smile of the Marquise de Pompadour and created for France's Louis XIV, who wanted a diamond to match it. The “bow-tie effect” is typical for this particular shape and its visibility is dependent upon how well the stone is cut.
